Workshop Kebijakan Strategis Perlindungan Data Pribadi di Lingkungan PT PLN (Persero)
Our Managing Partner, Pramudya A. Oktavinanda, was recently invited by PT PLN (Persero)’s to talk on the implementation of Law No. 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection (PDP Law) in PLN’s Strategic Policy Workshop. The session was attended by PLN’s Director of Risk Management, Mr. Suroso Isnandar, and Director of Legal and Human Capital, Mr. Yusuf Didi Setiarto, along with more than 100 senior executives and employees from PLN and its subsidiaries, highlighting PLN’s commitment to compliance and legal excellence with respect to data privacy.
In his presentation, Pramudya discussed the fundamental aspects of the PDP Law, including the legal basis for personal data processing, PLN’s obligations under the PDP Law, and the unique duality of employees’ positions as both the forefront of data controllers as well as personal data subjects entitled to comprehensive rights under the PDP Law. He also shared key insights from UMBRA’s extensive experience in navigating the practical challenges faced by businesses in implementing the PDP Law.
This event is a follow-up to our successful role in assisting PT PLN (Persero) (PLN) in closing the transaction of restructuring its electricity bill payment system in October 2024. This significant endeavor not only aligns PLN with the strict provisions of the PDP Law but also secures its existing collaboration with more than 50 banking partners, handling transactions of around 90 million customers, making it the largest data privacy compliance program implementation in Indonesia.
Guided by Pramudya A. Oktavinanda, and supported by Senior Associates in our M&A Focus Group—Dhea Gita Pramesti, Valeryan Natasha, Ajeng Ayuningtyas, along with Associate Nahda Anisa Rahma—our team successfully finalized negotiations in less than four weeks. These negotiations led to the restructuring of partnership agreements between PLN, PT PLN Icon Plus (ICON+), and numerous banking institutions, ensuring that all parties remain compliant with the PDP Law while maintaining their operational relationship with PLN.
Despite the complex structural changes involved, we safeguarded the continuity of these key partnerships, ensuring that the transition was seamless. Given the PDP Law’s enforceability and PLN’s critical role in managing daily high-volume electricity payments nationwide, the project demanded rapid yet meticulous action.
The swift completion of this project demonstrates UMBRA’s ability to handle complex regulatory requirements for large scale transactions within challenging deadlines. It also shows PLN’s commitment to protecting customer data and improving services, ensuring secure and reliable operations as they comply with new regulations.
At UMBRA, we remain dedicated to contributing to Indonesia’s legal advancement by sharing knowledge and shaping the next generation of legal professionals. Initiatives like these reflect our mission to strengthen the legal framework and inspire future leaders in the industry!
