Getting Help to Combat Sexual Violence 101
As sexual violence becomes an increasingly serious problem in Indonesia, we view the importance of coming together with community stakeholders to spread awareness and, most importantly, to help victims seek legal protection and overcome harmful physical and psychological effects.
The implementation of recent legislative reforms, conduct of forensic medical examinations, opening access to help for victims, and the prevalence of sex offenses in certain sectors pose certain challenges that our law enforcement and the wider Indonesian society must give special attention to. These will be discussed in “Getting Help to Combat Sexual Violence 101”, an interactive forum jointly organized by the US Department of Justice – International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (USDOJ ICITAP), the US Embassy in Jakarta, the Indonesian National Police (POLRI), and UMBRA Partnership.
Our Senior Partner, Melati Siregar, will discuss how the recently passed Law No. 12 of 2022 on Sex Offenses sets a new policy and enforcement framework to protect victims and prevent sex offenses. Melati will also be joined by distinguished speakers who will share their expert views, namely, Adinia Wirasti (Actress and Writer), AKBP Rita Wulandari Wibowo (Criminal Investigation Department POLRI), and dr. Boge Priyo Nugroho, Sp.FM (Head of the Tanjung Bunga Service Center Team, Tarakan Hospital Jakarta). The event will be moderated by Justitia Avila Veda (Founder and Director of Lawyers’ Collective for Gender Justice).
The event will take place on Thursday, 8 December 2022 at 13.30 to 15.00 at @america (Pacific Place Mall 3rd floor #325, Jl. Jendral Sudirman Kav. 52-53 Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta 12190).
