50 MWac Kalseltengtimra Solar Power Plant with a 14.2 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN)
Congratulations to PT PLN (Persero), Sembcorp Industries Ltd, and PT PLN Nusantara Renewables on achieving financial close for the 50 MWac Kalseltengtimra Solar Power Plant with a 14.2 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) being developed in the Indonesia’s new capital city, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN).
As Indonesia’s first co-located solar power plant equipped with BESS and the first renewable energy power plant dedicated to IKN, this landmark project highlights a major development in the country’s transition to sustainable energy. The project is being developed collaboratively by Singapore-based Sembcorp Industries Ltd and Indonesia-based PT Nusantara Renewables through their joint venture, PT Nusantara Sembcorp Solar Energi, with a long-term project financing secured from Societe Generale and Clifford Capital.
This project is strategically located at the point with the highest solar irradiation in the IKN area with a projected annual output of 92.8 GWh of renewable energy. It is expected to provide a reliable supply of green energy to power Indonesia’s new capital (IKN), reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 104,864 tons annually, and serve as the backbone of electricity in the IKN area.
Led by our Head of Projects and Infrastructure Practice Group, Kirana Sastrawijaya, with support from Associates, Yorda Lazuardi and Ricky R. H, we are proud to have been involved and assisted this project in achieving this significant milestone for such a landmark project. This achievement marks another historic step in Indonesia’s renewable energy development and aligns with the Government of Indonesia’s goal to increase renewable energy utilization to approximately 23% by 2025.
We look forward to continuing our contributions in advancing renewable energy projects and supporting Indonesia’s sustainable energy transition in the future!
