Green Energy Network – Asia (GEN-A) Inaugural Network Conference

UMBRA had the privilege of presenting and participating in the inaugural Green Energy Network – Asia (GEN-A) Conference held in Bali, Indonesia. The event was organized by the Griffith Asia Institute and supported by implementation partners, including Pakistan-China Institute, Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR), Green Finance & Development Center (GFDC), and Climate Smart Ventures.

GEN-A is a platform dedicated to accelerating Asia’s green energy transition by fostering collaboration, sharing best practices, and building capacity among regional leaders. Established in 2024, GEN-A is uniquely positioned at the intersection of Asian economies reliant on technologies (e.g., from China) and international green finance.

The inaugural GEN-A Conference served as a platform for launching GEN-A’s initiatives, including a guidance document and case studies for policymakers and changemakers. During the conference, participants explored actionable strategies to advance the green energy transition and strengthen regional cooperation.

Our Managing Partner, Pramudya A. Oktavinanda, was invited to present his commentary on the guidance document from an Indonesian perspective. He shared his experience in structuring transactions for landmark Indonesian IPPs in recent years, including Strategic Partner, Mandatory Partner, and Full IPP models—highlighting the distinctive legal issues associated with each.

Our Head of Projects and Infrastructure Practice Group, Kirana Sastrawijaya, moderated a panel discussion titled “Improving Green IPP Implementation”. She shared insights and discussed with panelists, including financing mechanisms, regulatory frameworks, and technology integration—elements that distinguish green IPPs from traditional models. Panelists included Dr Dinita S. (Ember), Lawrence Ang (Climate Smart Ventures), and Binnu Jeyakumar (The Powering Past Coal Alliance).

Our lawyers, Amelia Rohana Sonang and Yorda Lazuardi, also shared their experiences in closing financing transactions for Indonesian landmark IPPs in recent years, encompassing solar and wind projects.

We also would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Christoph NEDOPIL WANG, Alexandr Akimov, and Shawn Hunter from the Griffith Asia Institute for inviting us to the GEN-A Conference. The event featured wide-ranging discussions, enriched by the diverse perspectives of speakers.
