Celebrating 6 Years: UMBRA Law Firm’s Sustainable Voyage to Women Empowerment in Wedomartani

In celebration of UMBRA’s 6th anniversary, we embarked on a transformative journey to Wedomartani village in Jogjakarta. Our destination: Desa Prima Kartini, a community fervently dedicated to supporting and empowering women entrepreneurs.

Desa Prima Kartini stands as a beacon of empowerment, dedicated to uplifting capable and independent women in Wedomartani through entrepreneurship. Among its remarkable initiatives is the production of Eco Print fabric—a sustainable approach to traditional fabric pattern making. But what exactly is Eco Printing, and how does it correlate with sustainability?

Eco-printing is a natural dyeing technique that utilizes leaves, flowers, and other plant materials to create intricate patterns on fabric. Renowned for its use of organic, biodegradable materials, this process stands as a champion in sustainability. With minimal water usage, elimination of synthetic dyes, and a commitment to locally sourced and renewable materials, eco-printing promotes a circular economy and contributes to environmentally conscious practices. Our visit to Desa Prima Kartini delves into the world of Eco Printing, allowing us to learn firsthand from the skilled women of Wedomartani.

During our visit, we had the extraordinary opportunity to create our own Eco Print fabrics under the guidance of these talented women artisans. This hands-on experience connected us to the rich tradition of sustainable fabric creation, as the intricate patterns and vibrant colours told a story of both creativity and environmental consciousness.

The women of Desa Prima Kartini channel their creativity and skills into producing fashion products like bags and clothes from eco-printed fabrics. These unique pieces not only narrate a tale of tradition and craftsmanship but also represent a commitment to ethical fashion. Each product supports the village’s women in their journey towards financial independence and empowerment.

Desa Prima Kartini is not limited to fabrics and fashions; it’s a hub of sustainable innovation. The village’s women entrepreneurs also produce foods and drinks using eco-friendly practices. From locally sourced ingredients to eco-friendly packaging, every aspect of their products aligns with principles of sustainability.

From bags and clothes to food and drinks, the village showcases the incredible skills of women entrepreneurs committed to sustainable practices. By supporting these businesses, UMBRA Law Firm aims to raise awareness about the importance of using sustainable materials in traditional crafts.

Our visit to Desa Prima Kartini is not merely a celebration; it’s a call to action. UMBRA recognizes the need to spread awareness about sustainable practices and the empowerment of women. Through our experience in Wedomartani, we hope to inspire others to support similar initiatives and contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future.

As we commemorate our 6th anniversary, UMBRA’s journey to Desa Prima Kartini becomes a testament to our commitment to positive change. Together, let’s embrace sustainable practices, empower women, and build a future where communities thrive hand in hand with the environment.
