Getting Help to Combat Sexual Violence 101

The Law No.12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Crimes (“Law 12/2022”) has become one of the most important laws in facing sexual violence in Indonesia. We are proud that UMBRA has contributed to a discussion that was organized along with the US Department of Justice – International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (USDOJ ICITAP), the US Embassy in Jakarta, and the Indonesian National Police (POLRI). The discussion with the title “Getting Help to Combat Sexual Violence 101” was held on Thursday, 8 December 2022 at @america (Pacific Place Mall 3rd floor #325, Jl. Jendral Sudirman Kav. 52-53 Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta 12190).

Our Senior Partner, Poppy Cut Rahmasuci, as a woman lawyer, has been actively involved and represented us to discuss how the recently passed Law 12/2022 has set a new policy and enforcement framework to protect victims and prevent sex offenses. The discussion was also joined by distinguished speakers who shared their expert views, namely, Adinia Wirasti (Actress and Writer), AKBP Rita Wulandari Wibowo (Criminal Investigation Department POLRI), and dr. Boge Priyo Nugroho, Sp.FM (Head of the Tanjung Bunga Service Center Team, Tarakan Hospital Jakarta). Moderated by Justitia Avila Veda (Founder and Director of Lawyers’ Collective for Gender Justice), the discussion was full of insightful comments and questions from the speakers and participants. We are delighted that the discussion brings new awareness to all the participants concerning the newly enacted Law 12/2022. We hope that the implementation of Law 12/2020 will serve according to its objectives so that the victims of sexual violence in Indonesia will feel that their rights are better protected by law and the State.
