Focus Group Discussion Carbon Trading with OJK
Right after the issuance of Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 21 of 2022 (MOEF Regulation 21/2022) as an implementing regulation of the Carbon Presidential Regulation, we are honored to have our head of power and infrastructure partner Kirana Sastrawijaya, senior associate Paula Aprijanto, and associate Angela Vania Rustandi spoke in a focus group discussion regarding carbon market held by Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK). The event was also attended by representatives from PT Bursa Efek Indonesia, PT Kliring Penjaminan Efek Indonesia, and PT Kustodian Sentral Efek Indonesia.
The discussion focused on the latest regulatory framework on carbon trading in Indonesia (which turned to be interesting discussions due to the recently issued MOEF Regulation 21/2022 which provides more details on the frequently-asked-questions related to carbon trading after issuance of the new Carbon Presidential Regulation), and key regulatory considerations under the Carbon Presidential Regulation, MOEF Regulation 21/2022, and related capital market regulations in developing and structuring Indonesia’s future carbon exchange.
We are also excited for the opportunity to exchange ideas with well known carbon trading players AirCarbon Exchange (ACX), CarbonX Investments who also spoke in such event.
Carbon exchange will play a vital role in facilitating the development of carbon trading in Indonesia in order to achieve Indonesia’s Nationally Determined Contribution Target. OJK is currently developing carbon exchange as mandated under the Carbon Presidential Regulation. We are truly thrilled to be able to participate in such important development.
