Webinar “Covid-19 Impacts and Challenges: International Law Perspectives”
On 4 June 2020, our Counsel, Junianto James Losari, spoke in a webinar hosted by Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) and Centre for International Trade and Investment (CITI) on the impacts and challenges of COVID-19 from the perspectives of international trade, investment, and public international law.
James explained about some of the trends in policies of governments to address public health and economic concerns arising from COVID-19. Based on his observation, measures taken by the governments to accelerate economic recovery but adversely impacting foreign investors may potentially lead to an increase of new investor-state arbitration claims against the governments under their international investment agreements.
We thank UPH and CITI for providing us with the opportunity to share our view on this topic, and the discussion raised the participants’ awareness of the current development of global policies taken by governments amid COVID-19 and their impacts to businesses.
