Offsetting Carbon Footprint Through Indonesia Carbon Certificates

Since the launch of IDX Carbon on 26 September 2023 and the issuance of Presidential Regulation No. 98 of 2021 on Carbon Pricing for Achieving National Determined Contribution Target and Controlling GHG Emissions in National Development, numerous companies have registered their carbon certificates (SPE-GRK or Sertifikat Penurunan Emisi Gas Rumah Kaca) in the Indonesian National Carbon Registry (SRN PPI) and have started participating in carbon trading.

With the support of Think Policy Indonesia, we are delighted that our firm has registered and then successfully retired/offset carbon certificates (SPE-GRK) of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy for the Lahendong Unit 5 & Unit 6 projects in the Indonesian National Carbon Registry (SRN PPI) (link: https://srn.menlhk.go.id/spe/#about) – making us the first Indonesia law firm registering a carbon certificate under the new regulatory regime since issuance of PR 98/2021.

We thank Think Policy Indonesia for this initiative which enables us to offset 3 tonnes of CO2e of our carbon footprint to an Indonesia-certified project and effectively enable us to participate in reducing emission from driving a fuel-based car approximately 10,000 kilometres.

This initiative aligns seamlessly with our recent establishment of UMBRA’s Sustainable, Climate Change and Carbon Division and our commitment to support and participate in sustainable development in Indonesia.
